JROTC meets daily for Golden Valley HS Cadets, additionally participation in extracurricular teams is not required. For Hart and Canyon HS Cadets, we meet 3 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1:00-4:30 P.M. at GVHS. Transportation to and from day schools is provided. On off days, Wednesday and Friday's, cadets may leave their day school earlier.
Yes, once a week for graded uniform inspections. All uniform pieces are provided at no charge to cadets. Cadets are responsible for maintaining and displaying the uniform properly for inspection. Don't worry! We will help teach you how to wear it.
No, there is no obligation to join the military by joining a JROTC program. These programs are designed to create better and more responsible citizens with applicable leadership skills. However, if cadets decide to join the military, they may receive a higher pay grade of E-2 or E-3 upon enlistment once they reach the minimum 2-3 year completion requirement of JROTC .
No, JROTC is a leadership development course offered to all high school students in the Hart district and throughout the U.S. Although cadets participate in physical training, which can be intensive at times, we only require a cadet's best effort and participation in the program for success.
JROTC provides access to many opportunities within and outside of the military. It lets students develop and grow in a safe environment as a person and leader to their piers. JROTC is unique with the leadership opportunities it provides to cadets involving community service, competitions, and flight academy scholarship opportunities. It also instills highly valuable skills including time management, confidence, and discipline. All these aspects of JROTC are highly vital to the success of a cadet after high school and into the workforce or professional career.
